Gastronomy in Alsace

The Alsace region offers a rich gastronomy to its visitors. It is also the region of France that owns the largest number of highly ranked stars restaurants...

Home of the French white wine, Alsace is gifted with rich soil, perfect for cultavating vinyards which produce some famous wines such as Gewurztraminer, Riesling or Pinot Gris.

As an age-old institution in Alsace, the "winstub" is a traditional establishment in which visitors can enjoy Alsatian dishes accompanied with wine.

As both a wine bar and competitively priced restaurant, the winstubs are definitely one of the most interesting aspects of Alsatian gastronomy.

Here, visitors can enjoy their meals in a warm and relaxing atmosphere, on wooden tables covered with red-chequered tablecloths.

In these friendly establishments which are immensely popular with Alsatians, you will be served simple yet traditional dishes.

The Traditional dishes are the Baeckeoffe, a vegetable and meat stew, in white wine, the "Choucroute" (sauerkraut), the Riesling Cock, and the "tarte flambée"...

With a rich tradition stretching back to 1260, Strasbourg is also famous for beers and is the home of
numerous breweries: Kronenbourg, Fisher, Adelshoffen, Schutzenberger...

Theses various beers can be tasted in the bars and pubs, especially around the Cathedral of Strasbourg.
